[제주특별자치도 민속자연사박물관 - 기획전 / 사이 : 그-너머]

100여 년 전 독일인 탐험가 ‘발터 스퇴츠너’가 제주를 탐험하며 남긴 기록을 통해 옛 제주의 모습을 조명한 기획전시이다. 독일 ‘드레스덴민족학박물관’과의 공동 교류전으로, 당대 발터 스퇴츠너가 작성한 수기 원문과 사진, 제주 민속품을 함께 전시해 당시의 시선을 사실적으로 전달하였다.

1부는 ‘발터 스퇴츠너’가 제주에 와서 탐방한 내용으로 직접 모은 민속품 및 터우 모형과 일러스트 연출을 통해 당대 제주 민속품의 사용 방식과 생활상을 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 연출하였다. 전시 2부에서는 독일로 건너간 이후의 여정을 다루며, 바로크 양식 공간 연출 속에서 한국 민속 연구에 기여한 안봉근의 활동을 소개하였다. 이를 통해 제주 민속이 국경을 넘어 연구되고 공유된 역사적 의미를 되새길 수 있도록 하였다.

[Folklore & Natural History Museum Jeju Special Self-Governing Province - Special Exhibition / Between, Beyond: A Hundred-Year Journey]

This special exhibition sheds light on the image of old Jeju through records left by the German explorer Walter Stötzner, who explored the island over a century ago. Presented as a collaborative exchange exhibition with the Dresden Museum of Ethnology in Germany, it displays Stötzner’s original handwritten notes and photographs alongside Jeju folk artifacts, conveying his perspective of the time in an authentic manner.

Part 1 focuses on Stötzner’s travels in Jeju, presenting folk artifacts he collected, along with teu models and illustrated installations, to help visitors easily understand how Jeju folk items were used and how people lived during that period. Part 2 addresses the journey after the materials were taken to Germany, introducing the activities of Ahn Bong-geun, who contributed to the study of Korean folklore, within a Baroque-style spatial setting. Through this, the exhibition reflects on the historical significance of Jeju folklore being studied and shared beyond national borders.
