[제주특별자치도 민속자연사박물관-제주 성안 이야기]

제주 민속자연사박물관은 화산섬 제주가 지닌 자연환경과 사람들의 삶을 종합적으로 소개하는 제주 대표 박물관으로, 제주의 형성과정과 자연환경, 한라산 생태계, 야생동식물 등 자연사를 비롯해 제주인의 생애와 민속문화를 함께 다루고 있다. 실물 자료와 모형, 마네킹 등을 활용한 전시를 통해 제주의 독특한 자연과 문화를 입체적으로 이해할 수 있도록 구성되어있다.

‘제주 성안 이야기’는 제주에서 가장 오래된 도심지인 제주 성안을 중심으로, 근현대 제주 사람들의 생활과 도시의 변화를 소개하는 전시 공간이다. 본 전시는 옛 원도심의 모습을 실제와 유사하게 재현하는 데 목적을 두고, 오랜 시간 일상과 상업, 문화의 중심이었던 제주 성안의 공간 구조와 삶의 풍경을 모형과 그래픽으로 풀어냈다. 특히 1960~1980년대 칠성로 일대의 옛 공간을 사실적으로 연출해, 제주도민에게는 향수를 불러일으키고 어린이 관람객에게는 낯설고 신선한 옛 제주의 모습을 경험할 수 있도록 구성했다. 이를 통해 관람객이 세대와 시간을 넘어 제주 원도심의 기억과 가치를 자연스럽게 공감하도록 했다.

[Folklore & Natural History Museum Jeju Special Self-Governing Province - Stories of Jeju Castle Town]

The Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum is Jeju’s representative museum, offering a comprehensive introduction to the island’s natural environment and the lives of its people. It presents Jeju’s formation process, natural environment, the ecosystem of Hallasan, wildlife, and natural history, along with the life cycle and folk culture of Jeju residents, using artifacts, models, and mannequins to enable a three-dimensional understanding of Jeju’s unique nature and culture.

Stories of Jeju Castle Town focuses on Jeju Seongan, the oldest urban area of Jeju, introducing the lives of local residents and changes in the city during the modern period. The exhibition recreates the former old downtown by presenting the spatial structure and everyday scenes of Jeju Castle Town through models and graphics, and realistically depicts the Chilseong-ro area from the 1960s to the 1980s to evoke nostalgia for local residents and offer younger visitors an unfamiliar view of Jeju’s past, allowing visitors to naturally empathize with the memories and values of Jeju’s historic city center.
